What the hell is #SnugglesAndHorror!?!?

At its essence, Snuggles and Horror describes the physical environment I need to write, the emotional landscape I sink into as my stories unfold, and the treacherous journey my characters go on.

My amazing, talented, and supportive partner, journalist and podcaster Breena Kerr, is an avid reader of my stories. She not only understands my stories, but she understands ME inside and out and knows how deeply and emotionally connected I am to my protagonists. Last year she coined the term “Snuggles and Horror” to describe the genre of my stories. I LOVE the term and the feelings it conjures up couldn’t be more accurate.

Born and raised on the island of Maui, 15-year-old Mele’s lifelong dream is to surf every major big wave break around the world. But when an opportunity arises that will give her everything she wants, she'll have to face off with more than just monster waves.

It had always been a dream of mine to live on a beautiful island surrounded by crystal clear turquoise ocean. And from 2018 - 2021, I lived that dream. Every day on Maui, I got to feel the warm sun on my skin, the sticky sand on my feet, and the salty air on my tongue. I learned to spearfish and occasionally brought home dinner. I learned to forage and harvested bananas, coconuts, and lilikois from my backyard. But while it would seem three years was ample time to learn to surf, I only went out a few times. Crazy, I know!

If you’re reading this post, then I want you to know that I’m beyond excited you’re here! Ever since I was a kid, I’ve had my head in the clouds imagining fantastical stories in faraway places. And ever since I started writing, I’ve been looking forward to sharing my stories with other daydreamer, dreamweaver, star-gazers like you!

And that day has finally come.

Welcome to my treehouse universe called The Dark Rainbow.

The Dark Rainbow is a wonderland full of Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Adventure, and Horror stories. Each and every story will take you on a fast-paced thrill ride into darkness and beyond. I hope to both excite and terrify you.
